Essexville-Garber 2018 TE/WR Ben VanSumeren is a 6'3" 235 TE/WR prospect that flipped his verbal commitment to the University of Michigan after being committed to Iowa.

Jim Harbaugh and 2 other Michigan coaches visited VanSumeren at school on Friday morning. VanSumeren wasn't sure if he would visit Michigan on Thursday, but the Friday visit has led to Ben VanSumeren taking an official visit this weekend.

The D Zone has learned that VanSumeren is being recruited as an H-Back/Fullback by Michigan. VanSumeren was being recruited as a LB by Iowa.

VanSumeren finished his senior season with an incredible 85 receptions which are good enough to finish tied 9th overallin a single season, but VanSumeren is the only player to have that many receptions in a 9 game schedule, the rest in the pack played in 10+ games.

Essexville-Garber Head Coach Jake Coquillard commented on VanSumeren's work ethic, "Ben’s is an absolute relentless workout warrior! He lifts twice a day if he can and he understands that if he wants to be the best, you have to put in the hard work. He also, catches 100 passes every day, eats 6,000 calories a day and goes to bed usually around 9pm. He sleeps with a football, he buckles a football and buckles it in to the passenger seat of his car. He wants to be the best!"
