West Michigan Top Prospects of 2022 (15-11)
Welcome back to another edition of our off-season prospect rankings. Last week, I broke down West Michigan's class of 2022 prospects ranked 25-21 and 20-16. Today, I broke down players ranked 15-11. Be sure to check back tomorrow as we'll get into the top 10.
12. Bashir Neely, 6'3 G, Grand Haven
Bashir was an integral part of a successful Grand Haven team this past season and should be one of the best two-way guards West Michigan has to offer as he transitions to his senior year. Bashir has a great first-step and gets downhill in a hurry, making it hard to stop him without fouling once he gets into the lane. Bashir has a unique ability to finish unorthodox shots when he’s off-balanced after taking contact. Bashir’s perimeter jumper extends well beyond the three-point line, and he has the confidence to knock down those looks in close game situations. Defensively, Bashir does a good job of baiting opposing players into high-percentage looks at the rim, and turns it into a steal or blocked shot.
13. Calvin Kibbe, 6'3 G, Rockford
As a junior, Calvin was one of the best on-ball defenders in the OK Red and helped Rockford capture the outright league title by locking down opposing teams’ top scoring threats on a nightly basis. Calvin also flashed an ability to get hot from the perimeter in a hurry and provide consistent scoring and an ability to space the floor. Calvin also showed he can break his man down in isolation and drive the lane for a high-percentage look, or a kick out to an open teammate. Now that Sam Krist has graduated, expect Calvin to be one of Rockford’s go-to guys in crunch time and have more sets designed to set up Calvin in opportune scoring situations.
14. Kaden George, 6'3 G, Spring Lake
Kaden is one of the more versatile players from West Michigan due to the number of different ways that he impacts the game. Defensively, Kaden uses his length to disrupt passing lanes and deflect passes, creating turnovers and run-out opportunities for Spring Lake. Kaden has shown great court awareness during the course of his high school career and is excellent in help-side defense. His length also allows him to block a high rate of jump shots and steal the ball when defending against penetration. Offensively, Kaden has a smooth jumper that is consistent from beyond the perimeter. Kaden is also a plus finisher through traffic and can routinely get quality looks near the rim. Expect Kaden to be one of the scoring leaders in the OK Blue next season.
15. Jacob Bonnett, 6'0 G, Forest Hills Central
Jacob is the definition of a prime-time player, meaning his game goes another level when his team needs a bucket or a stop in crunch time. On several occasions, I watched Jacob rally Forst Hills Central back into games and help the Rangers flip momentum on their side in the 4th quarter. Jacob is one of the best ball handlers in the area and has a variety of moves he uses to penetrate the lane to take shots at or near the rim. Jacob also does a good job of creating contact and finishing tough drives through bigger defenders. Defensively, Jacob has the motor to guard full court for a full four quarters and the awareness to create turnovers and transition opportunities. Expect Jacob to be one of the best pure point guards coming out of West Michigan in 2022.
