Top Performers from Dig Deep Showdown Showcase 2018
The inaugural Dig Deep Showdown Showcase took place this past weekend at the Genesee Fieldhouse. Dig Deep is ran by two former highly recruited athletes; William Cooper/Michigan State and Justice Hayes/Michigan.
The D Zone Top Performer - Okemos 2019 OC Broderick Jordan: The Lansing-area Center didn't lose one rep the entire day when we were watching him. The 6'3 290 lbs Jordan moves well on his feet and no matter who he was lined up across from, he didn't have any problems keeping them in front of him in 1 on 1's. Jordan is certainly making a strong case for being the #1 ranked Center in the Class of 2019. (INTERVIEW)
Offensive MVP - Davison 2019 RB Mike Jamerson: Jamerson sat behind Genesee County's all-time leading rusher Tariq Reid this past year as well as another senior in Lamar Hay. Now that it's his senior year, Jamerson is ready to take the torch. Jamerson is a well put together 6' 180 lbs RB who also has an incredible pair of hands. On Saturday he came out on top of mostly all his reps and had several tough catches where he looked more like a receiver than a runningback.
Defensive MVP - Monroe 2019 ATH Maleik Linton: Linton is the best Athlete at Monroe which results in him being the Quarterback on offense. Linton could play a variety of positions in college at the next level. On Saturday he focused on just defense and turned out an MVP performance as he displayed great ball skills and won more reps than he lost. Linton was constantly going vs. the best competition. Linton had several incredible deflected passes and was solid in his dropbacks and coverage as he quickly recovered from double-move routes by the receivers. (INTERVIEW)
Lake Orion 2019 OL Chris Vernon: The junior missed this past season due to injury but is playing at 100% and beyond now. Vernon at 6'4 295 lbs has great size as well as a nice blend of mobility and strength to keep defenders in check. It should be an interesting camp season for Vernon as he has a ton of potential to play at a high level, just no junior film to show it.
Goodrich 2021 WR Tyson Davis: Davis is an impressive Freshman who we saw this year in season and recently at two football camps. Davis is an incredible talent who is surely going to be highly recruited in due time. Davis had another MVP discussion worthy performance as he made several incredible catches on precise routes. Davis had a few reps in 1 on 1's where he needed more space for a clean catch and one where the timing was off and he almost made an miraculous 1 handed catch. Davis was the coaches MVP for WR.
Ypsilanti Lincoln 2019 RB Ethan Brooks: Each camp when looking back at film certain players standout much more than they did in the camp and that was the case for Brooks. The junior back was phenomenal as he has the build of a RB and blew past linebackers who were trying to deal with his size and speed. Brooks also caught everything thrown to him in 1 on 1's. Brooks was the coaches MVP for RB.
Everest Academy 2019 ATH Nino Mastromatteo: Had another clinic type performance as he was sharp and precise in his routes and had several great reps that he won and lost through the day. Mastromatteo is very fluid.
Monroe 2019 OLB Hayes Brooks: The 6' 195 lbs Brooks turned out a good performance as he's physical and covers well. Brooks size probably translates in college to a DB position. Brooks was the coaches MVP for LB.
Livonia Churchill 2019 OLB Dez Dewberry: Dewberry has a nice blend of speed, strength, and coverage skills. All were on full display this past weekend. Dewberry pulled out several tough wins in 1 on 1's.
De La Salle 2019 DL Mike McGinnity: The Pilots defensive tackle had a strong performance at the Showdown as the 6' 230 lbs McGinnity displayed his versatility by beating both Guards and Tackles through the day. McGinnity was the coaches MVP for DL.
Holt 2020 OL Eli Haidamous: The Lansing-area 6'2 260 lbs sophomore lined up at Guard and Tackle through the day. Haidamous was solid through the day, but in best of the best at the end, he laid several powerful blocks that left defenders out of the play and ignited the crowd.
Cranbrook 2019 DT Danny Files: Files is a massive presence that constantly gave interior offensive lineman problems over the weekend. Files displayed some quick bursts and utilized his strength throughout 1 on 1's as he won quite a few reps.
Clarkston 2019 DE Jay’viar Suggs: Suggs had a great camp in drills and 1 on 1's. Suggs constantly lined up vs. the best competition including a few reps as a Defensive Tackle. Suggs at 6'1 215 helped the Wolves win the D1 title in 2017, but appears to have added another inch or so and some more muscle/weight.
Davison 2020 DB Caleb Smith: A Safety in camps like this doesn't really show a true evaluation, but Smith showed his skills in drills and in 1 on 1's he lined up as a corner where he made a few nice plays.
Detroit Catholic Central 2019 QB Marco Genrich: The Shamrocks signal-caller has quite a bit of mobility as seen in drills and in 1 on 1's flashed an an accurate arm and was in sync with the receivers route. Genrich was the coaches MVP for QB.
East Lansing 2020 WR/DB Kye Bristow: Bristow is a long and lengthy prospect with long strides. Bristow had some back and forth battles with DB's but showed a knack for making plays.
Detroit Catholic Central 2020 LB Brendin Yatooma: The 5'11 205 lbs linebacker had a great showing in drills and showed some good flashes in 1 on 1's.
Monroe 2019 RB Jalen Johnson: A speedy runningback with a some length. More of a Slot type recruit at 5"10 180.
Traverse City Saint Francis 2019 DB George Mackey: The 5'11 175 lbs Mackey is a well put together DB, he has a nice set of physical and cover skills. Mackey showed good ball skills as well.
Rochester Adams 2020 QB Jerry Garrett: An accurate and smart decision making quarterback. He had several nice throws throughout the day.
Divine Child 2019 QB Josh DePaulis: DePaulis showed a strong arm and was accurate through the day. As a senior this upcoming year, he'll take over the QB position following the graduation of Theo Day to Michigan State.
Grand Blanc 2021 CB David Childs: The young Freshman was impressive as he didn't back down vs. the best receivers and had a few nice reps that he won.
