Prospects Recap from Flint Carman-Ainsworth vs. Lapeer (Story)
#20 Lapeer had their backs against the wall in a competitive game vs. a 3-4 Flint C-A team at the Cavaliers homecoming game, but scored 10 points in the final 38 seconds to erase a 28-21 deficit. The Lapeer Lightning struck the final blow to Carman-Ainsworth with an interception in the final minute which setup an incredible 49-yard field goal by Cody Fick as the clock read 00:00. Lapeer won 31-28.
We'll break down their performances below:
Lapeer:
2020 MLB Phoenix Dickson is the lone Lightning player we have ranked at #46 overall in the Class of 2020. Dickson is a 6'2 210 lbs tackling machine who had 19 tackles, 5 tackles-for-loss, 1 interception, and 1 rushing touchdown. Dickson has 95 tackles so far this year; he is a fearless, instinctive linebacker who tracks the ball well, and is a sure tackler. Dickson also contributed with wildcat snaps at QB where he was very effective in getting positive yards, a key 4th down conversion, and a 10 yard touchdown run.
2019 DE/TE Carson Currie is a 6'2 215 lbs solid prospect who tracks the ball well and can be a disruptive factor on defense. Currie was just that on Saturday as he had a key pass deflection in the redzone which resulted in an interception for his team. Currie was a physical presence that didn't relent all game.
2019 RB Jalen Kirkland is a player that can wear down defenses, Kirkland is a 3-year varsity starter who is 5'11 225 lbs. Kirkland broke out 1-2 nice runs and several other key runs but he also did well in pass blocking.
2019 QB Brady Apple is a 6'2 185 lbs QB prospect who didn't need throw too much in this game and if anything he needed a "tide to go pen" to clean his uniform instead of the laundry machine. Apple threw for 3 touchdown passes including a very well thrown ball on the wheel route in the final minute to make the score 28-28. Apple connected with 5'9 165 lbs 2019 WR Drew Johnson on all 3 TD passes. Apple has offers from; Davenport, Clarke, and Concordia-Ann Arbor.
2019 S/OLB Jordan Pohl is 6'1 180 lbs prospect with D3 opportunities so far from, Finlandia and La Verne.
2019 OG Will Sollie is a versatile OL prospect at 6'2 250 lbs and can pass/run block. Has an offer from NAIA program, Culver-Stockton.
2019 OT Luke O’Brien is a 2-year starter at RT for Lapeer. The 6'5 275 lbs OT picked up his first offer last week from Culver-Stockton.
2019 OT Chase Burton is another on the OL who should be bound to play somewhere in college next year. 6'3 280 lbs lineman who can move pretty well.
2019 K/P Cody Fick drilled a 49-yard field goal which could have been good from 55 yards out and was 4/4 on PAT's.
Carman-Ainsworth:
2019 DE Mike Fletcher is committed to Michigan State and is the #8 ranked player in the Class of 2019 according to The D Zone. Fletcher wasn't a huge factor on the defensive side of the ball with a very slick and muddy grass field. He was in on several group tackles, but didn't show off anything crazy. Offensively he had 5-6 catches on short routes and with his 6'7 size was an easy target.
2020 QB Dustin Fletcher is the #19 ranked prospect in the Class of 2020, Fletcher is a strong armed QB with a pretty good release. The 6'4 QB holds 9 various offers and showed his athletic abilities with several key rushes in this game. Fletcher's best play by far though was a rollout to his left, he broke free from a potential sack, and dumped it off to his receiver who scored from 67 yards out. Fletcher had 3 passing touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdown, but also had 3 interceptions.
2019 WR Jakobe Blount is a 5'9 165 lbs Slot receiver who holds a Siena Heights offer and is a very elusive player with also excellent speed. He was one of Fletcher's top targets with several catches throughout the game and 1 touchdown.
2019 MLB/RB Tanayshio Dones was probably the best player on the field for the Cavaliers on Saturday as the 5'11 235 lbs LB was in on everything and made some good runs on offense too. He's a hard-nosed kid who just got after it, time and time again. Nothing fancy.
2019 WR/CB Idris Bray is a 6' receiver with solid hands. Scored 1 receiving touchdown.
2019 WR/CB Trent Barron is 5'9 165 lbs receiver with 4.4 speed and it showed with several very well ran routes and a touchdown reception. Also had some nice defensive plays including a PBU.
