Petoskey gets bitter sweet sweep of Traverse City Central in District opener (Recap)
Gaylord: As Big North Conference Rivals Traverse City Central and Petoskey are very familiar with each other as they meet two times in the regular season and on Monday night they met in the opening round of Districts.
Petoskey swept the Trojans in the regular season but knew they needed to play their A game to get a third straight win.
The first half was a balanced attack for the Northmen as seven guys got into the scoring which was led by Seth Mann and Joel Wilson with six each. The Trojans were led by Jordan Vicent who he four threes in the first half and had 14 first half points although Petoskey took a 28-19 lead into the half.
In the second half with the refs calling fouls like crazy, Jacob Lee of Petoskey made the most of his opportunities as he sunk eight second half free throws to have a big 10 point second half.
The Trojans kept it close but the Northmen pulled away in the fourth quarter on the way to a 62-48 victory.
The Northmen were led by Danny Kolp with 18 and Lee with 14 points. Central was led by Vicent with a game-high 22 points.
Petoskey will take on Traverse City West at home on Wednesday in the District Semi-Final. Petoskey won both games against West this season. The winner will face off against the winner of Marquette/Gaylord in the District Final in Gaylord on Friday
Why was it bitter sweet? Was there an injury that took something away from the win?
