Muskegon Mona Shores rolls against GR Kenowa Hills
The #2 ranked team in Division 2 had no problem with their in-conference opponent on Friday night, rolling to a 48-6 victory. The Mona Shores Sailors turned in a dominate performance on both sides of the ball against their OK-Black foe, Grand Rapids Kenowa Hills, to move to 6-0 on the season and clinch a playoff berth.
The Sailors started off quick, scoring three times in the first half on a 7yd TD run by Charles Allen; and two TD passes by QB Tristan Robbins, the 2nd one a beautiful 60 yard throw hitting James Gilbert in stride.
The Sailors added two more scores in the 2nd quarter, the first on a pass from Robbins to Keyshawn Summerville, the second a 6yd run by De'Anthony Davis.
The Sailors defense would hold the Kenowa Hills offense to just a single first down in the first half. The Knights drove as far as the Sailor 11yd line just before half, before a sack forced a FG attempt that was blocked, ending the 1st half.
The second half moved quickly as the Sailors remained firmly in control, scoring twice more to make the final score 48-6, the Knights scoring once in the 2nd half against a largely 2nd-string Mona Shores defense.
Now 6-0, Mona Shores will travel to Grand Rapids Union next week to take on a Red Hawks squad that is 0-6 and struggling mightily - before a home showdown with undefeated Muskegon that is one of the most anticipated regular season games in the state.
For Kenowa Hills, now 2-4, next week won't get any easier as they take on a very good Muskegon team on the road.
