That's why I said nail in coffin.... West Catholic had started to come back but Jacobs getting hurt pretty much put Frankenmuth looking for hope.
Four of the teams in Mid/Northern Michigan's zone of coverage looked to get to Ford Field this weekend and three out of four were successful and will be in the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP next weekend.
D5:
Frankenmuth vs Grand Rapids West Catholic
Frankenmuth led most of the game but a 3rd quarter injury to QB Zach Jacobs was the nail in the coffin for the Eagles as they end their season in the Semi-Finals for a second straight year. A impressive performance for the Eagles to show they can compete with the divisions best. Frankenmuth looks to build off this game going into next year and taking the next step as a program.
Swan Valley vs Reed City
Chase Mendoza has stepped up in every way for the Vikings this fall and did it again Saturday with two touchdown runs to push the Vikings to their first State Championship appearance ever in a 29-14 victory over the Coyotes of Reed City. A truly dominating defensive performance holding Reed City to just 14 points after scoring 40+ every game in the playoffs so far.
D6:
Ithaca vs Traverse City St. Francis
They're back. A year away from Ford Field The Yellow Jackets are making the trip again for the 7th time in eight years after dominating St. Francis in a 27-0 victory. St. Francis offense couldn't get anything going as the Yellow Jackets swarmed the Gladiators all day on Saturday in the shut out.
D8:
Saginaw Nouvel vs Iron County
Nouvel made the long trip to the Yooper dome and came away happy with another trip planned next weekend to go to Ford Field. A field goal was the difference for the Panthers in a defensive battle. The Panthers won their last two games by a combined five points.

I would say the nail in the coffin for Frankenmuth started with about 9 minutes to go in the second quarter, when West Catholic started figuring out the Eagles attack. QB Jacobs had a tremendous game for sure, but after rushing for 134 yds in the first half, was held to -6 yards until he was hurt with 10:38 left in the game. The Eagles had no answer for the defensive changes West Catholic made. No doubt the loss of Jacobs was a big blow, but the offense with the backup looked just like the offense in the 3rd quarter with the starter, not sure if he would have made a difference . . . .
