Frankenmuth finds way to keep winning without Whitley

Mario Whitley has been a key piece for the Eagles the past four years. On Wednesday the Eagles would have to play without him though.

Whitley who is committed to playing basketball at Saginaw Valley next year was hospitalized last week in a game vs Hemlock when he fell and hit his head and the result was a pretty severe concussion.

Although Whitley was out the Eagles still had a game Wednesday as the Dukes from Essexville-Garber came to town looking to get the best out of Frankenmuth with Whitley out.

The first quarter both teams were firing tons of three’s as Frankenmuth had a one point 13-12 advantage after one.

The second quarter saw Sam Gray heat up as he scored 10 of his 15 in the 2nd quarter to help Frankenmuth take a 28-20 lead into the half.

Coming out in the second half Garber looking to close the gap wasn’t able to score a point until 2 minutes left in the quarter as Frankenmuth continued to add on and held onto a 41-28 lead entering the final quarter.

In the fourth Garber came to life. Jacob Denham was throwing up everything and making everything but Frankenmuth had an answer. Carson Bell delivered time and time again so Garber could never inch too far closer as Frankenmuth pulled out a 57-45 victory over rival Garber.

Frankenmuth was led by Carson Bell with a career high 15 points and Sam Gray with 15 points. Jacob Denham had 19 with 16 coming in the second half for Garber.

Frankenmuth (13-1) (7-1) travels to take on North Branch Friday. Garber (8-6) (5-3) looks to rebound at home against Birch Run on Friday.
