Cranbrook pushes past Detroit Osborn 71-58 in Holiday Hoopz Showcase
The Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Cranes defeated the Detroit Osborn Knights 71-58 in the Holiday Hoopz Showcase on Sunday.
Cranbrook got off quickly with a 6-0 run started by senior forward Jordan Roebuck. Good perimeter shooting and rebounding by senior forward Jack Fairman gave the team a quick lead.
But Osborn senior center D’Andre Terrell answered with great shooting and rebounding of his own, piling in points in the paint.
The Cranes trailed the Knights 20-16 at the end of the first quarter.
Junior center Bryce Hall led a strong defensive effort for the Cranes in the next quarter, pulling in several rebounds while controlling the paint. Senior forward Sam Hauxwell and junior guard Cam Garner both found the 3-point stripe as the Cranes exploded for a 21-9 quarter.
Cranbrook led 37-29 at the half.
Fairman led the charge in the third quarter, putting in points from the perimeter and the paint. Two key 3-point plays by Fairman late in the third period cemented the Cranbrook lead.
The Cranes led 53-39 at the end of the third quarter.
The fourth quarter saw the Knights make a valiant charge with Terrell and senior guard Kawan Carter pushing the tempo.
But Roebuck and Hall demonstrated their leadership abilities, keeping pace with Osborn and getting key points to rebuff the charge. Fairman, Hall, and freshman forward John Kersh dominated the board to allow the Cranes to finished the game in control.
The game stood at 71-58 at the final buzzer.
“We kept tempo with a strong team today”, said Cranes Head Coach Shane Finney. “We were able to get good ball rotation and find good shots. ”
Fairman led the scoring with 16 points, with Roebuck adding 15 points, and Garner contributing 13 points in the victory. Hall grabbed 8 rebounds, while Fairman had 6 rebounds in the game.
Cranbrook will host the Metro Conference Reunion Holiday Tournament at home next week. The tournament will be held at the Keppel Gymnasium on December 27th.
Tip-off is at 5:00 p.m.
